Top Reasons Why Diets Don’t Work

If you’re anything like me, you’ve no doubt tried pretty much every diet out there but with little or no success. Why do most diets fail to deliver on their promises? Many individuals believe the myth that dieting by eating less will result in weight loss. In reality when we go on a low calorie diet we are at risk for gaining weight. As humans we are designed to read reduced food consumption with starvation. When we intentionally deprive our bodies of food we trigger our body’s starvation preservation mode.

Studies show that thin people tend to eat have diets that contain more complex carbohydrates (like vegetables, wholegrains etc) and most people who are overweight follow diets that have a lot more fat and starchy carbs. Being able to interpret what these studies tell us about which factors contribute to weight loss is crucial when creating a weight loss program. One of the best ways to lose weight quickly is to start a low GI diet where you restrict the total amount of high GI carbohydrate you take in each day, but don’t worry too much about the other foods. You still need to make sure you don’t overeat, by carefully managiing your portion sizes, and make sure you get a good proportion of healthy nutritious foods which should also be low in saturated fats.

Chances are there are habits that contributed to the weight gain and the weight gain was not over night but took years to accumulate. Because it took a long time to gain the weight, it will also take time to lose weight in a healthy fashion. The people who are unable to comprehend the balance between watching what you eat, drinking adequate water, exercising and making sure they get enough sleep are the next customers to the “weight loss gurus” pushing the new fad diet, weight loss pill or quick weight loss tips. You don’t need to look far to find the latest fad diet or weight loss program. Because most individuals today have been programmed to want everything now, it’s much easier to think (or even believe) that a magic does exist that can burn off fat virtually overnight, than to conceive that we have the capability to improve our lives and live healthier longer lives where being overweight is the thing of the past.

Diets are doomed to failure because they do not encourage a balance within your body. Diets fail because some are structured around making the promoter or some company rich rather than structuring a diet product or system that will actually encourage an individual to lose weight.

It’s well known that people who are carrying excess weight are prone to illnesses and other life shortening health problems because of being overweight. Excessive fat and processed carbs in your diet is one of the major reasons for excess body fat.

People have been led to believe for too many years that they need to eat a lot less or count every calorie they consume before they can shed those excess pounds. The truth of the matter is that our bodies are more than able to manage weight if we give our bodies what is needed it needs to stay healthy - like making sure you get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, eat healthy and nutritious foods, and regular exercise.

Getting rid of those extra pounds is not all about counting calories, you also need to avoid eating in excess. Proper portions of nutritious foods are very important to losing weight. It’s also important that you get plenty of exercise. Our bodies respond well to physical exertion!
